Child welfare social workers protect vulnerable youth and help disadvantaged families in meeting the needs of the children. Their main aim is to remove children from home settings which do not meet certain standards. They work with children and their families and arrange for the short and long -term care of children whose families are unable to take care of them. Due to the complex nature of their work, sometimes they find their responsibilities to be challenging and difficult but still they do not give up and provide compassionate support to children.
Subhash Pawara is such a great personality and social worker who has been serving the underprivileged children since many years. He is a 26 years old athlete who was born on 14th August 1993 in the tribal forest area of Madhya Pradesh. When he was three years old, some local groups attacked his father and as his father was against violence, he decided to leave the area and came to Maharashtra. He started working as a daily wage worker.
After few years, Subhash Pawara started going to school but inspite of that, he would hide himself in school’s washrooms.
After his father came to know this fact, he scolded Subhash. After this incident, he started going to school regularly. In 8th grade, his teachers noticed his talent in running and made him participate in various competitions.
Later on, he represented State level competitions in 2008 and 2012. He also participated in All India Competition (Nationals) in 100mtr race. He participated in various other competitions where he won and had to pay some fees but he did not have any money. So one day before the competition, he ran back home where his father gave him money to attend the competition and won the competition.
Under 18, he went to Pune for selection where he stood 4th all over Maharashtra but he was not selected in Maharashtra list. He was disappointed and so, returned back to his place where his father sold his goat for 800 rupees and bought him spikes. He was so happy that he promised to win the world for him but unfortunately because of financial issues, lack of proper diet and injuries, he was not able to give his satisfactory level.
Inspite of all this, he did not give up, stood up again and bagged a position in 100mtr race at state level and got recognised. He was awarded 25,000 rupees per year but soon the government changed and the financial help was taken away from him. He then decided to do on his own and went to Pune with a dream of playing Olympics’16. He had to face hardships in Pune as he often slept on footpath and had nothing to eat. He did not give up and started training back but unfortunately, he suffered from a serious injury. His dream of playing Olympics was shattered.
He then decided to train young athletes in Shirpur. At that time he was selected for doing Masters in Sports Management in France but because of economic issues, he was not able to go. So he continued coaching young athletes. His only goal was to make his students represent India in Olympics. Some of his students, too, faced financial problems, so he took proper care of them and made them stay in his own home and took care of their food, coaching and education. Along with training students he also adapted various new technologies and methods and tried to incorporate them in daily practice.
10-12 students of his training are now national level athletes in different events.
Krish Sports Foundation who is working for health and sports became very happy to meet such an eminent personality. Mr Pawara is assigned as head coach for sports super 30 in shirpur by the foundation. In today’s world, where people are not able to cope up with their own needs, people like Subhash Pawara are doing a great job inspite of limited resources. This is the story of one of our dignified personality in order to honour and acknowledge him.
